Once we’ve got the villa arranged, we are away on holiday! Hurray! We’re going to Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands in April, for a break to finally put an end to the present Mrs Izzard’s cancer treatment which began with the confirmation in April, through surgery to remove the lump, chemotherapy all through the remainder of 2010 and then radiotherapy which she had during December and the early part of January.
Happily, because the work I do is regarding SEO and associate marketing, I was able to take her to hospital and be with her during her treatments as I was able to rejoin my work when we got home, and I could also do the school run for my son. What I couldn’t do of course was go off with my fishing tackle, but I will be able to go back to the water shortly, hopefully on Friday afternoons, as she has now returned to work, though on sliding scale of adding an hour per day per week until she is back up to full time again in a couple of weeks. And when that is the case and she can collect our son from kindergarten in the afternoons, the path should be open for me to get my fishing line wet.
But the trip is something we considered a while ago to get over the whole period, which really does cause a huge disturbance to life. You have to plan around treatment sessions as there are days after chemotherapy when she couldn’t go out as her immune system was under attack as well as coping with things like hair loss. It’s hard on all involved and that is why we need the vacation.
For me though, when we arrive there I’m expecting to have an iPad and that means that I can carry on with my search engine optimisation and affiliate marketing while we are there. And also, it is reported that the resort we are looking at is excellent for angling too. And this will be exciting as I have never been sea fishing before and do not know much about sea fishing tackle or how to set up sea fishing rods so I shall be very interested to have a go.
I hope villa has a bbq as the idea of catching, cooking and eating some fish is exciting, though I did it once before, in Germany with some carp and it was completely vile (though to be fair we should have left it to soak for a day to clean the meat). I expect the fishing line will be much heavier than the course fishing tackle for freshwater that I am used to using in Britain.
Thinking about it, I did do some sea fishing once, again on vacation but this was in England and we were chasing mackerel from a boat. The fishing tackle was merely fishing line on the end of which was a bit of foil on a hook, but despite 2 outings I didn’t catch anything.
So we’re anticipating getting away on a vacation, soaking up some sunshine at the seaside and doing some fishing, and although Herceptin treatment for Mrs Izzard will be carrying on throughout the year, the important thing is to get closure on this most horrible of periods of time for us.
